And finally, a rare British postage stamp has been sold at an auction house in New York for 9-point-five million U.S. dollars,.. setting a new world record.
Paul, this is the most expensive stamp ever sold in history.
You have to tell me… what exactly makes this tiny stamp so special?
It’s truly one of a kind. The British Guiana One-Cent Magenta was one of the first postage stamps ever made and is often described as the most famous.
The stamp was printed in 1856… at former British colony in South America, which is now the republic of Guyana.
The stamp was sold by the late multi-millionaire John du Pont,… of the du Pont chemical fortune,… who bought it in 1980 for around 900-thousand dollars.
An anonymous telephone bidder purchased the stamp, which has been called the holy grail for stamp collectors.
“It sets a brand new world record for a stamp, obviously. So far above any prior price for a stamp. It’s going to be a hard one to beat. And it probably won’t be beaten until this stamp comes up for sale yet again, in the future.”
According to the Sotheby’s auction house, it’s also the most valuable object… by weight and size… ever sold.
The previous record price was set in 1996 for a single Swedish stamp for about 2-point-2 million dollars. Chery.
Alright Paul…. Thanks for that update. We’ll see you back… in just about two hours.
