Sandstorms hit several areas of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from Thursday to Friday, causing troubles to local residents and traffic.
A sandstorm hit Hotan Prefecture on Friday morning. Many vehicles had to turn on lights and slowed down for the sake of safety. Fortunately, the traffic was not much affected.
Hami Prefecture was also lashed by a sandstorm accompanied by a gale on Thursday afternoon. The sandstorm covered the roads, and reduced the visibility to 50 meters. Some vehicles driving down the roads have to stop, waiting for the sandstorm to end.
“I cannot even see anything within two meters at some cases, and the average visibility is only ten to twenty meters. It is very dangerous to drive on the roads,” said Chai Chunqing, a retired worker.
The sandstorms had caused troubles to residents, construction sites, farm production and crop planting. It stopped on Friday afternoon.
