The notion of Valentine’s Day may be relatively recent in human history, however, the idea of everlasting love has existed for a very long time. The discovery of a long-deceased couple locked in an eternal embrace backs up that statement.

In 2013, archaeologists working in southern Greece uncovered two sets of human remains in a single grave and now experts are sharing the touching way the pair was found just in time for some February 14th inspiration.

The man and woman died approximately 58 hundred years ago and their skeletons were intertwined in what looks like a hugging position. According to a senior member of the excavation team that made the discovery, the couple likely died while embracing.

Experts believe the male and female were in their 20s when they passed away, although research into the finding hasn’t yet determined how they died.

DNA testing only recently determined their genders. Further DNA tests will likely be conducted in the future to learn if the couple was related.
