Pregnant women should avoid eating tuna due to high mercury levels: Consumer Rep

It goes without saying that when you are pregnant you should be extremely cautious about what you eat and drink.
And a new report is warning women that are expecting to avoid eating tuna, and that includes the canned varieties.
American magazine Consumer Reports cited the relatively high levels of mercury contained in the fish as the reason for its warning.
Almost all seafood contains mercury to varying degrees.
Too much can damage the brain and nervous system… and fetuses and children are especially vulnerable.
Along with recommending that pregnant women avoid tuna, Consumer Reports also says everyone should limit their tuna consumption based on their weight.
The National Fisheries Institute in the U.S., which represents seafood companies and restaurants, questions the magazine′s claims,… saying it was not a thorough or balanced examination.
