DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) — A recent medicinal marijuana bill may have died in the Senate — but new polls show that the majority of Iowans support legalizing the drug for medical purposes.
According to a poll from the Des Moines Register, 59 % of Iowans back legalizing the drug for patients who need it.
However, 69 % still oppose legalizing marijuana for recreational use.
Those numbers are almost identical to poll results from last year.
Supporters of legalizing medicinal marijuana say they need to gain support from republicans before any legislation moves forward.
